Leading NM Women Announce “Women for Marty”

Group Joins Lilly Ledbetter in Support of Chavez Congressional Run

(ALBUQUERQUE) – Today, Mary Molina Mescall, former Executive Director of the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women, former New Mexico first Lady Clara Apodaca and inaugural steering committee members announced “Women for Marty,” a group of women dedicated to helping Marty Chavez win in his race to represent the First Congressional District of New Mexico in the House of Representatives.

“I know firsthand that he has a proven record of having a progressive vision and someone who has made a difference in his public service as State Senator and three-term Mayor of Albuquerque,” said Mescall. “It is now time to elect him to serve as New Mexico’s District One Congressional representative where he will make a difference for New Mexico and the country.”

“It’s a true honor to have the support of so many influential New Mexican women as I campaign to bring leadership that gets results to Washington.  I’m proud of the progress we made advancing women’s equality issues as Mayor and look forward to continuing that work in Congress,” said Chavez.

“In October, Lilly Ledbetter, namesake of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act 2009 endorsed Marty and stated ‘Marty has a proven track record of supporting gender equality in the best kind of way---by putting his money where his mouth is.’

I agree, and truly believe that Marty will “walk the talk” for women and girls of New Mexico. With our support, we can make a difference in electing Marty,” added Mescall.
